# Switch or create a workspace

Select an existing membership, request to join another workspace, or start a separate workspace without replacing the current one.

Canonical: https://docs.lead-knight.com/en/team/workspaces/

## What this is for

The workspace switcher lists the workspaces you belong to and your role in each. Switching changes where you work, not who you are signed in as. A workspace's content, connections, role and seat access can differ from another's.

## Before you start

Save any work using the current page's own controls before leaving it. Make sure the workspace name you want is in your membership list; otherwise request to join it or accept an invitation.

## Switch to an existing workspace

1. On desktop, open **Switch workspace** in the sidebar. On a phone, choose **More**, then the workspace switcher at the bottom of the panel.
1. Review the listed names and roles. A check identifies **Current workspace**. **Setting up** means that workspace has not finished opening.
1. Choose the other workspace's name. The app switches its current workspace. If your membership still needs setup or a seat, the relevant flow explains what to complete.
1. Check the workspace name and your role before editing or publishing. The small identity line can also show your seat's plan here.

## Create a separate workspace

1. Open the switcher and choose **Create a workspace**, or **Create an office** in Nadlanite.
1. The onboarding wizard opens for a new workspace. The existing workspace remains as it is; a new name and setup are required.
1. Complete [onboarding](https://docs.lead-knight.com/en/getting-started/onboarding/). The workspace step creates the new workspace; merely opening the new-setup link does not create it.

To join an existing team instead, choose **Join a workspace** and follow [Join requests](https://docs.lead-knight.com/en/team/join-requests/). Do not create a duplicate workspace to access someone else's data.

## Discarding an unfinished workspace

Only an owner may see **Discard** for a workspace that was never opened and has not completed their onboarding there. The confirmation warns that discarding removes it and everything prepared in it and cannot be undone. A workspace with a seat or bill is not eligible for this shortcut. Cancel if you are unsure; this is not a way to archive an active office or cancel its subscription.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Next step |
|---|---|
| The workspace is not listed | Use its invitation or request to join; knowing its name alone does not grant membership. |
| The wrong data appears | Check the selected workspace before making changes. |
| **Setting up** appears | Open that workspace and complete its remaining setup. |
| Discard is refused | Its state may have changed or it is no longer eligible. Do not retry it as a subscription cancellation. |
| A discarded workspace needs cleanup | If the dialog offers **Finish disconnecting**, use that action; the workspace has already been discarded. |
